2017 Nikkal Wines Pinot Noir

2017 Nikkal Wines Pinot Noir
Yarra Valley

Cherries, raspberries, rhubarb and a touch of spice all find a place to create a vibrant, full and generous wine with a velvety and fleshy texture.

Bursting with flavour, this is a supple wine with youthful juiciness. A blend of pinot noir grapes from four vineyard sites which truly captures the essence of the Yarra Valley. Each vineyard brings a different element to the wine, with the overall theme being bright fleshy fruit.

The four vineyards are:

  • Roundstone Estate, Steels Creek
  • Upper Ngumby, Yarra Glen
  • Gist, Christmas Hills
  • Willowlake, Gladysdale

I keep every parcel of fruit separate in the winery before and after fermentation. I keep the wine in barrel for six months before I bring the best of all the vineyards together to blend a deliciously succulent wine.

Juicy pinot

Nikkal 2017 Pinot Noir

Nikkal is a brand-new range from the very talented Kate Goodman and consists of three impressive Yarra Valley wines; a chardonnay, a rose and this spectacularly good pinot noir, which offers exception value.

The wines are named after the Phoenician goddess of fruit and orchards and share quite spectacular labels. A blend of fruit from four different vineyards, this has all the joys of youth; it is bright, energetic and supple with a real juiciness on the palate.

Kate suggests pairing it with a ham and cheese toasty. I’d opt for some stir-fried Chinese duck. $25.

NIKKAL 2017 Pinot Noir Yarra Valley

Pinot noir at this price point often can be viewed by aficionados as an introductory step to what can become a very expensive obsession. Consider yourself lucky with this wine by Kate Goodman that taps four Yarra districts to bring together a deliciously juicy wine with a sense of some flint and chariness along with lavender and rosemary fragrances in a svelte style.

Best with Soy, duck breast, noodles. $25.
